School To Work Transition

Washoe Arc believes strongly in supporting students with intellectual disabilities in creating a smooth transition between school and adult life. We work closely with Sierra Regional Center and the Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation, as well as, Washoe County School District. Over the years, we have partnered with several High Schools to provide worksites for their job shadowing programs.

We are happy to meet informally with students and parents to talk about options and help create a transition plan. We can discuss skill sets and interests that may help a student have a better understanding of the work world.

We can attend IEP meetings as requested and as time permits.

We encourage tours of our facilities for students, parents and teachers.

Washoe Arc can often provide a ‘summer job’ for students looking for job experience.

Washoe Arc has a Person Centered Supported Employment Program which seeks to assist individuals interested in permanent community employment match their skills, abilities and interests with employers looking for dedicated, hardworking employees. Washoe Arc can assist with all aspects of assessments, job development, interview skills, resume building and placements. Job coaching and ongoing supports can be provided as needed.
